Do You Remember Chauncey The Gardener from the Movie “Being There?”

Chauncey the Gardener is a dimwitted character in the movie Being There, played by famous actor Peter Sellers. During one scene in the movie, Chauncey gets hit by a car. In the car is the president of the United States.

The president brings Chauncey in to his inner circle and begins to rely on Chauncey’s simpleminded advice. When the president asks Chauncy what his name is, Peter Sellers says “Chauncey, the gardener.” The president doesn’t catch the fact that he truly is a gardener and hears instead that his name is Chauncey Gardiner.

Most interesting about this movie and Peter Sellers character is that here is a gardener who takes to planting things with the expectation that flowers will grow and you will get results if the garden is properly tended to.

You can look at video marketing for attorneys in exactly the same way. In fact, it’s exactly like planting seeds.

Every time you create a great educational video you are planting seeds. Every time you optimize that video with best practices, you are planting more seeds. The more that you nurture the video and take care of it and promote it properly, the better results you can expect to achieve.

If you fail to tend to your video garden, your results will wither away as if you were not watering your plants in the garden.

Video marketing is not a one-time deal. It is not ‘create a few videos, put it online and then hope viewers will find it and watch it’.

Instead, you must tend to it often and care for it in ways that your competitors will never do.

  • Have you optimized your title?
  • Have you created a compelling description?
  • Have you given the video consistent keywords?
  • Have you supplemented your videos with text?
  • Have you created a transcript?
  • Are there other things to attract viewers to your video?
  • Are you using all the strategies that YouTube allows you to use?
  • Are you allowing your viewers to interact with you?
  • Are your videos generating subscribers?

Ask any gardener how to get the best results for your shrubs and plants and if they been doing this for a long time they will tell you exactly what needs to be done. You could of course do the planting on your own.

On the other hand, you could hire a gardener to do all that work for you in order to free you from the burden of having to learn how to do this yourself.

How many other video marketing gardeners can say that they have achieved settlements of $8.6 million over the past seven years from people who have come in the door as a direct result of simple little videos? I don’t know a single one except yours truly.

If you want me to take care of your video garden and start planting seeds for you, then reach out to me at 516-487-8207 immediately. Planting season is now.

I think that video is the future and you’re looking 5 years down the road, I think that the importance of television and radio are going to diminish and the importance of internet is going to rise. I think that anybody seeking to get a competitive advantage in their market needs to take the initiative and work on that now. And this is an opportunity to get in ahead of the curve and gain a competitive advantage.
