How often do you see an attorney poking fun at himself? I guarantee it does not happen often. Most lawyers project a very stuffy and formal image. They do not want their prospective clients or colleagues to think they are anything less than professional.

I personally believe that you have to be yourself on video to show that you are genuine. I show you these video clips, not for you to emulate, but to show one facet of what I do to show people that my spoken words are not always perfect.

Remember, lawyers are not standup comedians, unless you are my good friend Bob Battle, a Fairfax DUI attorney who happens to be a professional standup comedian and a darn good lawyer to boot. Most lawyers tend to be reserved and wish to portray themselves as being 100% serious 100% of the time. That’s perfectly okay. I personally like to show a lighter side of me.

Find a way to show how unique you are on video that will set you apart from all of your colleagues. Remember when you were in grade school and your mother said to you “You are very special because of who you are?” Find that special something and use it when shooting attorney video.

Have you ever been driving a car and had the engine overheat? Have you ever had to pull over your car to put coolant into your engine because it was overheating?

I never thought the same thing could apply to a video camera. I was wrong. Not just any video camera, my dSLR. You see, I have used my camcorder for many years now without any problem whatsoever. Occasionally, I will use my dSLR ( digital single lens reflex camera) to shoot video. Stunning video. Amazing quality video.

However, up until today, I never knew my camera could overheat, shut down and require me to wait until it fully cooled down before using again. In fact, I learned today that my dSLR has a temperature gauge setting with an electronic thermometer warning in red that blinks continually when it reaches the breaking point. Unfortunately for me, I was in front of a camera shooting video on my own and didn’t realize that I was overheating my camera in my temperature-cooled office. It was only when the camera shut down midsentence that I realized something was wrong.

When I tried to restart it, I saw the deadly red thermometer warning continuing to blink. As I touched the settings to try and restart the camera, I almost burned my fingers on the outside of the camera. The electronics were extremely hot to the touch. With little else to do, I shut the camera off and went out to get some lunch.

In researching the problem, I learned that dSLR cameras are not designed to shoot video continuously like camcorders. In fact, they typically have a maximum continuous video shoot time of 10 to 12 minutes. That occurs because of the large video file that must be transferred to the memory card. However, if you try to shoot video continuously, without starting and stopping, the electronics will overheat and shut your camera down without warning.

When I came back from lunch and turned my camera on, it was cool to the touch and ready to go for another round of video. What’s the moral of the story? I’m glad you asked. There is always a moral to my stories.

If you intend on shooting protracted sequences on video with a dSLR, then my strong recommendation is not to use a dSLR. Instead, stick to your trusted camcorder that will allow you to shoot video for a long time. Then again, maybe it was me talking too much that caused my camera overheat and shut down

Do you think you could benefit from what Zappos knows?

I’ll give you a hint at what they figured out.

Video works. It works well. It works great. That’s why they have an astounding 60,000 product videos. Videos that describe, that show, that talk about their product. Who is watching their massive number of videos? Consumers who are interested in their products.

How do you think you could benefit from creating a huge video library to market your law practice?

Do you think that 60,000 Zappos videos dominates their online video market? Definitely. How cool would that be if you could do the same?

If you’re ready to revolutionize the way people get to know you, like you and trust you, then creating an entire video library is right for you. Now is the best time to start. Pick up the phone and schedule your VIP marketing strategy phone consultation with me. Contact Kathleen, my production manager, at 1-800-320-4314 or by email: kathleen@lawyersvideostudio.com.
Yes, I will be the first to say it now. Your law firm will become obsolete if you do not adapt and put video on your website.

Come back with me a few years. Why did you create a website? Because other lawyers were using new technology to ‘get their name out there’, right? You didn’t want to be left behind. Why did you join Facebook? Everybody was doing it and you realize it’s not just hype to be on FB. The social implications are huge. Same for Twitter and LinkedIn.

You did these things because you probably saw other lawyers doing it too and you didn’t want to be left behind.

When lawyers first started putting their info onto websites, they had no idea what to do with it. Blogs were unheard of. In fact, people called them ‘diaries’. When I first heard the term blog (actually, they called it a blawg), I couldn’t understand why anyone would post personal comments about their daily activities online. It just didn’t make sense.

Now, there are millions of blogs. Each one fighting for online space. When YouTube came on the scene less than six years ago, nobody could figure out how to get video from a camera and upload it online. Smart lawyers tried to put their TV commercials onto YouTube thinking somebody must want to watch it. Let’s just throw it up there and see what happens.

In the ‘early days’ of online video, bandwidth was very expensive. Video file size was extremely limited. As technology evolved, uploading video became easier and video sharing sites started accepting larger and larger video files. Initially, YouTube couldn’t figure out how to monetize their videos. Well…along comes a little search engine company with a funky sounding name (Google) that buys a blossoming video sharing site called YouTube for OVER A BILLION DOLLARS!

Next thing you know, YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world and over 200 million videos are viewed daily.

So, lets go back to my original question: “Why did you create a website?”
To attract viewers and to show how you’re right for someone looking for a lawyer. Yet there are now millions of lawyer websites online. How do you stand out from all of your competitors online? “We care.” “We have nicer pictures and graphics.” “We have flash animation.” “We are experts at what we do.”

Yes, that’s nice. But how do you “show” your viewers that you’re different?

The answer is with video. (As if you didn’t know that’s what I’d say.) Seriously, your online viewers expect you to have video. They want to see you. They want to hear you. They want to listen to what you have to say. Are you intelligent? Do you have a deep voice? Are you wearing nice clothes? What does your office look like? Do you have an understanding of the type of legal problem I have?

The only true way to answer these questions is with video.

My prediction is that lawyers who do not adapt to their consumers wants and desires will not only lose business to their competitors, but will become obsolete in a short time. Remember, potential clients searching for an attorney online will compare you to other lawyers online. If you don’t have information they want, in the media they want, they will go elsewhere. That’s a fact.

To get onto video today I urge you to pick up the phone and schedule your free consultation with me at 877-789-9163 or by e-mail at kathleen@lawyersvideostudio.com. I welcome your call.

You might think it a bit odd for a lawyer to shoot video while on vacation with his family. You might think it's strange for an attorney to take his video camera gear, microphone and tripod to a Caribbean family destination. You might even think it unusual that a lawyer would WANT to spend time teaching and showing his kids different ways to market a business using online video, and that's ok if you do.

However, my family knows that I always take my camera gear when we go away. They know how important video is to market a law firm online. They see the results of my video marketing every day when I receive calls and emails from prospective clients raising their hand asking for more information about the topic I talked about in my video.

You might think it a bit odd for a lawyer to shoot video while on vacation with his family. You might think it’s strange for an attorney to take his video camera gear, microphone and tripod to a Caribbean family destination. You might even think it unusual that a lawyer would WANT to spend time teaching and showing his kids different ways to market a business using online video, and that’s ok if you do.

However, my family knows that I always take my camera gear when we go away. They know how important video is to market a law firm online. They see the results of my video marketing every day when I receive calls and emails from prospective clients raising their hand asking for more information about the topic I talked about in my video.

I want to share a secret with you. One reason why I shoot video while on vacation is that it’s totally different from the stuffy, formal videos we see so often. Typically an attorney is sitting at their desk or in front of their dust-collecting bookshelf. I like to be different. I’ll shoot video at the beach; in a parking lot; in a corridor…anyplace really.

When on vacation, I wake up with new ideas to use video to market my own solo law practice (with much success) and for the really smart lawyers who participate in my Total Online Video Success program. It’s energizing. It’s invigorating and there’s not much downside to doing that while watching the gorgeous crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean at the beach.

Want to learn how we shoot an entire video library of 50 videos in a one-day video shoot? I encourage you to explore my solution for that answer. Looking to join the only trial lawyer who helps attorneys create video to market their law firms? Looking to increase the chances that your online viewers will convert to callers? I urge you to pick up the phone right now and schedule your free consultation, (877) 789-9163, or send an email to my production manager, Kathleen@Lawyersvideostudio.com. I promise to answer all your questions and I look forward to speaking with you.

I am the solutions man. I know the rules. I know the legal process. I know how to evaluate a medical malpractice, PI and wrongful death case. I know what experts to use. I know how to evaluate liability, causation and damages. I know what questions to ask. I know how to take depositions and try cases.

I am the solutions man. I am a lawyer. I am an experienced medical malpractice trial lawyer. I have the answers that injured victims need to know in New York.

Unless your potential client knows all the solutions that you know, they’re at a significant disadvantage when they’ve been injured. That’s why you’re the solutions man. You have the answers. You have the info they need.

You’re really not a lawyer with ten, fifteen or twenty years of experience. You’re not a lawyer in a big firm or small firm. You’re not a lawyer with a list of credentials. You’re the solutions man.

Me? I help solve people’s legal problems. That’s what I do.

I also help lawyers market themselves online with video. I have the solution to creating an entire video library. I know what content gets viewers to call. If you thought this blog post was all about me, you’d be wrong. It’s actually all about you.

I know what marketing problems you have.
I’m the answer man. I have solutions.
How can I offer my solutions to solve your problems? The first step is to schedule your free phone consultation with me to see if we’re a good fit. You can reach me at (877) 789-9163 or send an email to my production manager, Kathleen@lawyersvideostudio.com. I welcome your call.

You’re debating. You have an internal conflict.

“Should I create video?”
“Should I learn to do it myself?”
“How much does it cost?”

“I want a quality product I can be proud of and I know that Gerry has a great program, but I’m just not ready to invest in myself yet to get started on the results I want.”

“I recognize that video is the future and I need to create a video library to properly market my law firm.”

“I know that my current marketing just isn’t cost-effective and is draining my budget. What are my alternatives?”

Your marketing plan will never be perfect.

That’s a fact. However, that fact that you are making a plan is a great first step. If you wait till you have a perfect plan and then implement, you will be five years late to the market and your competitors will have left you in the dust. You’ll be spending half your day staring at the phone wondering why it’s not ringing.

As I have said many times before, smart lawyers make decisions. Really smart lawyers take action to implement those decisions, and super smart attorneys IMPLEMENT their decision to take action. So Mr. or Ms. Attorney, are you more closely aligned with the smart lawyer; the really smart lawyer or the super smart lawyer?

No matter which lawyer you’re closer to, you need to take action. The first action you should be taking is picking up the phone to schedule your free phone consult with me. That will get you on track to decide if we’re the right fit for you. Lawyers who take action are a pleasure to work with. They know what they want; they know what steps to take to get there and they understand how important taking action is to get their marketing to the next level.
