YouLaw: Unusual Background Distracts From Immigration Lawyer’s Message

Have you ever watched a news reporter on the street when a passerby waves at the camera or makes funny faces behind the reporter? You almost want the reporter to turn around because the passerby is more interesting. That’s the problem with this video by immigration attorney Kurt Hermanni.

In the video, Hermanni talks about how illegal immigrants might be afraid to pursue their legal rights if injured in an accident. Ironically, Hermanni says he does not handle personal injury cases. “If you feel you are afraid to present yourself in an action in civil court, I am here for advice,” he says. Hermanni fails to completely connect the dots so it seems like a non-sequitur, but there’s an even bigger problem.

Lawyer Video: Why Airport Security Stopped Me For Having an XLR Adapter

I was returning from vacation with my family and was at the airport in Ft. Myers, Florida heading back to New York. Going through the security checkpoint is pretty standard now and my family knows the drill:
Show your ID, proceed to the line for the x-ray machine, start unloading backpacks, jackets, remove shoes, put laptops in a separate bin, yada yada. Push the bins on the rollers into the x-ray machine and walk past the TSA agent by the magnetometer. Assuming you don’t set off the machine, wait for your personal items to pass thru the x-ray machine, and you now get dressed again.

How An Open House Helped Me Improve My Attorney Video

My family and I were on vacation in Sanibel, Florida, one of our favorite places, and as we were exploring the island one day we saw a sign that said “Open House.” My kids and I were intrigued and wanted to see this house that was for sale near the beach. My wife on the other hand was reluctant and did not want to go without an appointment. As we drove down the street we immediately noticed which house was having the open house: The one with the balloons at the driveway with a really big sign saying “OPEN HOUSE. WELCOME.”

My kids, seeing the sign, wanted to go in and explore. Read the full article to find out more…

Lawyers: Is Your Video Professional Enough?

I was on a conference call last week with a guy who is a professional videographer. During the call, he repeatedly tried to imply that the only real way to create attorney video is with a “professional videographer.” He emphasized that professional video companies use “green screen” techniques and know exactly how to format the video in order to properly upload it to various video sharing sites. Despite the fact that I am a full time medical malpractice and personal injury attorney practicing law in New York, and have tremendous experience creating attorney video, I had to agree with what this professional video guy said. In fact, I think it would be outrageous if a professional video company did not know how to create green screen effects, and did not know what formats to compress the video in order to properly upload it online.

However, here’s what I disagreed with:

A Great Example of an Attorney Who Took Action With Video

I had the privilege of meeting business lawyer David Kaufman last week to do a video shoot in Fairfax, Virginia. David is an aggressive trial lawyer and has many years of experience in all aspects of business disputes and business litigation. Most fascinating to me was the name for his website: “BusinessBrawls.com” I was so interested in the back-story behind the name of his website that I asked him to create a brief video personalizing and explaining how and why he named his website what he did.
