Knee Replacement Gone Bad

A woman went to have a uni-compartmental knee replacement, and immediately upon waking from surgery was in extreme pain in the back of her knee. Despite the orthopedist's reassurances that everything was fine, and that physical therapy would solve her problem, the pain continued for the next four months. Follow-up x-rays revealed that the original hardware was not put in the correct position during the original surgery. As a result, this patient had to undergo corrective surgery to remove all of the hardware and then put in a total knee replacement to fix the problem. New York Spinal Surgery-Unrecognized Nerve Injury

A woman had spinal surgery and a few days later developed tingling, numbness and pain in her hands, legs and toes. Calls to the doctor's office told the patient to stay at home until a hospital bed was available. When the woman's condition worsened, she arrived at the hospital admitting office, as instructed, and waited 5 hours before being seen by a doctor. Then the doctor took a CAT scan- which was the wrong test to evaluate her condition. The correct imaging test was done a day later, further delaying the correct diagnosis and treatment. When the correct diagnosis was actually made, the neurosurgeon delayed another 8-10 hours before taking the patient to the operating room. Continue reading
