How I Got Booted Off a Video Sharing Site Without Warning

Ever hear of Blip.tv or Dailymotion.com? You should have.

These are free video sharing sites. Naturally, I upload my videos there, among many others. I only post original content. I only post useful and educational material in my videos. I never violate terms of service. I respect others, and expect others to respect me. I always respond to comments on my videos. I’m always considerate of someone else’s comments even though I may not agree with them. Well, guess what?

Attorneys – Talk is Cheap, Good Video Production Isn’t

Video production for lawyers cost either time or money. Often, it costs both.

Creating a quality-driven educational message is not as simple as standing in front of your Flip video camera and simply pressing the big red “record” button. Same goes for using your Kodak Zi8 with an external microphone. Maybe you’ve had your eye on that Sony Webbie or one of the other handheld pocket-camcorders. Regardless of what camera you use, don’t just press that ‘record’ button and upload right to YouTube.

How Can You Charge $3.20 For This?

I went skiing this weekend, and guess how much a bottle of this cost? You guessed it. $3.20.

I don’t know about you, but I can buy a case of 24 bottles of water at Waldbaums for $3.99. To pay $3.20 for a bottle of water is outrageous. I asked the cashier at the ski resort why they don’t charge $5.00 per bottle. She was shocked and didn’t understand why I even made a comment.

Don’t Tell Me How To Build a Clock, Just Tell Me What Time It Is

Most attorneys only want to practice law. For them, marketing is nothing more than an annoyance they have to deal with in order to get more clients so they can do what they enjoy, which is practicing law. Those lawyers are the ideal clients who come to me and say “I want you to create the video for me. I want it all done for me. I don’t want to know about video editing, or compression, or how to color correct, or set my white balance. I just want to show up and start talking, and then you send me an email link where my video is so I can watch the final product.”

Mid-Size Law Firm Videos-Why Online Video Will Convert Visitors

Lawyers who work in a law firm with 5-20 lawyers may think video should not be part of their marketing plan to gain new clients. They’d be 100% wrong. Lawyers fail to look at marketing from a potential client’s eyes.

Think about why you even have a website: To provide information to online viewers.

How do you distinguish yourself from other mid-size lawfirms? With pictures? With flash animation? With your credentials? With your results? With the articles you and other lawyers in your firm have written?

Most mid-sized law firms have pictures of their office building; a photo of generic, well-dressed people in a waiting room; photos of their law library; a photo of a senior partner standing lawyerly and formal while looking at a law book. Here’s my question: “So what?” What good does any of that do to help you distinguish yourself to your online viewer? The answer is likely nothing.

Does Your Video Company Brand Your Video With Their Name?

If they do, ask “Why?”

Why should they get free advertising off your video that you are using to promote your legal services; not theirs. Why don’t you make them pay to advertise on your video? That’s only fair. As a trade-off, maybe they’ll reduce your fee in order to put their name, website and contact info right on your opening sequence, so your online viewer sees your video production company info, and not yours.

Hello…lawyers. Attention all lawyers…WAKE UP! “I said HELLO!”
