Should you shoot attorney video outdoors?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say “No.”

That is a bit hypocritical, especially since I shoot video outdoors all the time.

Why would I tell you NOT to shoot video outdoors?

Lots of reasons…let me share with you the ways…

  1. You may not have the video equipment to shoot your own video and don’t want to learn. This is an obvious obstacle created only by your lack of equipment and knowledge of how to use it effectively.
  2. Even if you have the equipment, shooting video outdoors is very challenging from a technical viewpoint.
  3. You don’t want to look different than all your colleagues who shoot video in front of their bookcase and against a wall.
  4. You like video that looks the same as everyone else.
  5. You have not figured out how to show you’re different and this is just too out-of-the-box for you.
  6. You care what other people think of you.

That last one is my favorite. That’s a common refrain I hear from attorneys who make excuses about why they cannot do something. “Oh, I can’t do that, what will my fellow attorneys think about that? Lawyers in my specialty just DON’T DO THAT!”

That type of thinking is another obstacle that will prevent you from standing out from the crowd.

Let me share with you why I shoot attorney video outdoors. In a suit. In a park. In a polo shirt. In a tuxedo. On the grass. With a desk and chair in my backyard on the grass. Literally anywhere. On vacation. On the porch. Near the beach. In a parking lot. By the dunes. By the water. While biking.

You name it, if I can do it, you can be sure I’m going to create great educational attorney video in places that have nothing to do with my office. And I’m going to incorporate where I’m shooting my video and tell my viewers about it. (There’s a key strategy in that.)

The reason I love shooting everywhere is that it allows me to STAND OUT from all my competitors. That’s it. That’s my secret.

Do you think the attorneys in a big corporate stuffy firm are going to go down to the beach in their suits and fancy shoes and set up for a great video shoot on a consistent and frequent basis? Not.

I do. That’s why I stand out, among many other reasons.

Don’t you want to do the same?
