Lawyer Uploads 1,152 Videos to YouTube on One Day (Revised 2nd time!)

I knew this would happen one day.

I felt it coming.

I had seen a preview of it from another lawyer about five months ago but didn’t believe it when I saw it.

No, I am not the one who uploaded 992 videos to YouTube on one day. I’ll share that info with you in just a moment. First, let me explain how I realized it happened.

I did a search for medical malpractice lawyer on YouTube today. The search results returned their usual videos, most of which were over a year old. I then filtered the results to the most recent uploads. That’s when it hit me.

Ten solid pages of one single video. Twenty results on each page. The same video. The same content. One page after the next. I clicked on the video and watched it.

The lawyer spoke for 25 seconds in each video. It was the same exact video. Nothing different. Same cliches as most injury lawyers use. “We’ll get you the compensation you deserve…”  Yada, yada, yada. Nothing substantive that helped educate a viewer about why he’s the right lawyer for them.

I then went to see how many videos he had. First it was 782 videos. Then 992!! Now, it’s 1,152 videos. All the same video!

I clicked on the attorney’s name to take me to his YouTube channel. Interestingly, YouTube said no such channel existed. “This channel is not available.”

When I clicked on the tab that said ’992′ videos, I was shocked.

When I clicked on the attorney’s url address for his website it said shockingly “This site is under construction. It will be live soon.”

Turns out, whoever uploaded this lawyer’s videos, created a separate video for each and every town in New York and also New Jersey. The content was exactly the same. The description was exactly the same except for the name of each town in the headline, description and tags.

In addition, in order to fool YouTube that these were unique videos, his video company added a few seconds in each video. The problem is that the videos are all the same.

Here’s my opinion on what I just witnessed.

It’s as if this video company just spammed the entire YouTube community with 782 videos that do not help educate a viewer looking for information.

I’m sure the attorney had nothing to do with this but rather relied on his video company to get one 25 second video online with 991 variations of it addressed to every single town in NY and NJ.

If I were an injured victim looking for an attorney to solve my legal problem, I’d be pretty annoyed to find 992 videos of a lawyer talking about himself and his law firm.

As the Founder of the Lawyers Video Studio and as the Chairman of the Lawyers Video Alliance, this type of video spam is simply not the way to generate content that sets you apart. If you want to target individual towns, great. If you want to show injured victims in different geographic areas why you’re the right lawyer for them, more power to you.

But don’t create a 25 second commercial and then generate 991 variations of it and upload it all on one day. That’s not what lawyer video is about. That’s not what will compel a viewer to pick up the phone and call.

The better practice is to educate and teach your viewers. Show them you have content and information they need.

  • Video spam reaches the legal neck of the woods. It may work for a short period of time, but like links, it will be sniffed out and nuked by the big G.

    I agree, it’s very tacky and does not help clients a all, BUT does it work? I won’t do this myself, but I wonder if it is effective for seo purposes? If it makes the guy pop up at the top of the prospective clients search….and they call him… It works right?

    I would hope YouTube catches it, but if not I wonder it will be the new spam for awhile

  • Hi Walt. Here’s what this is designed to do: Attach every town to this problem. Their thinking is that if someone does a local search in their town, seeking an attorney, they think this video will come up in the search results.

    Let’s say it does.

    Now, the viewer must choose which of the 20 results to click on. If they have tricked the viewer into clicking on the video, I think any viewer will be disappointed. Why? There’s nothing educational or compelling here.

    Ask yourself this question: If you had a legal problem and were searching for an attorney, would this video: (1) attract you to click on it, (2) Get you to watch more than 10 seconds of it, (3) Compel you to call?

I decided to create a whole video library to help educate consumers in my market about auto accidents and other injury claims, and also to help supplement other advertising. I chose not to do this on my own because I do not have the time to sit down and put all this together and figure it all out. And I wanted sort of a turnkey solution. I definitely recommend Gerry. I mean, you know, I think it’s a great program and I have been here all day and I’ve shot, I don’t know, 40, 50 videos. And so it’s hard to get that accomplished especially for what you’re getting. You know, you have to go to a studio somewhere, it’s on site. And I would definitely – the ease of this – I would definitely recommend it to any colleague or friend.
